What We Do

 

Advocacy
Heritage Ottawa's advocacy work occurs as issues arise. Time honoured methods of lobbying, consulting, letter-writing, media exposure, publishing, are all part of the work we do. Participating in public consultation sessions, seminars and workshops related to heritage and urban planning, preparing and making presentations to such organizations as :

  • LACAC(Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee)
  • CHOO/COPO (Council of Heritage Organizations in Ottawa/Conseil des organismes patrimoinial d'Ottawa)
  • The Development Services Department and its Planning Branch of the City of Ottawa
  • The Committee of Adjustment
  • The Conservation Review Board
  • And various community based organizations

Walking Tour Series
As part of our outreach activity Heritage Ottawa offers a series of guided Walking Tours of historic neighbourhoods. Each tour is 1.5 hours duration and costs $6 for members and $8 for non-members. Eight tours are generally offered every season that include destinations like New Edinburgh, Sandy Hill, the Glebe and Rockcliffe Park Village.
