UNCOVERING BYTOWN
UNCOVERING BYTOWN
This tour is presented in English.
NEW TOUR: To mark Ottawa’s bicentennial, we are offering a special tour on July 5th that focuses on Bytown in the 1820s. The 10 am tour is in French, followed by the English version at 2 pm.
Why was the Rideau Canal built 200 years ago? What was life like in Bytown back then? This walking tour traces the history of the region’s first peoples, the construction of the canal, and the founding of the city up to 1855, when it took the name Ottawa. Through surprising anecdotes, you’ll gain a general understanding of the history of Ottawa’s founding.
